I don’t totally know what to say here.  Sometimes you’re watching television and a song starts playing and it’s just like, you know, HOLY SHIT, THIS IS A REAL FUCKIN’ MUSICAL MOMENT HAPPENING RIGHT NOW.  Putting pop songs to emotional scenes is a really delicate thing for me, because even if it’s a song that I love, I usually hate that lazy, manipulated feeling you get from the combination of the two.  Especially if the song describes too concretely what is happening in the scene, ugh, terrible.  ”Spanish Sahara” was a new song to me, and it struck just the right balance of having tonal resonance with the reality of this series of short scenes between Alisha and Simon (and with this pairing and what it could become in general) without infringing on the emotions and dialogue actually happening in it.

alisha:  I didn’t realize how much I missed it … being able to touch someone.  I can’t believe I just had sex with you.  You’re Simon.  Still a virgin.
simon:  Not for much longer.
alisha:  Do you lose it with me?
[Simon just barely shakes his head, no, not with her.  Alisha frowns, unhappy.]
simon:  Are you jealous?
alisha:  Shut up. 
simon:  I like it that you’re jealous.
alisha:  This is too weird.
[They kiss.]

Like seriously this pairing, I can’t deal with it.  They were on some strange, ridiculous, super-powered archeological dig to find themselves and accidentally found each other instead.
